Our classroom is a calm, welcoming space with an inclusive approach to teaching and learning. In Willow Class, we recognise that every child is unique. We celebrate each other and our achievements regularly.
Our Team
In Willow Class, we are supported by three adults who help with the children’s learning. Miss Alston is the class teacher, supported by our two fantastic teaching assistants, Mr Bell and Mrs Cornell.
Our school day
Every child has the opportunity to complete spelling and fine motor skill activities when they come into class, this calm slow start supports a calm and welcoming environment enabling children to have the opportunity for social interaction before transitioning to lessons.
Consistent morning routine
Our register is taken at 9 o’clock every morning, followed by maths, phonics, assembly, break and healthy snack time.
Our afternoon routine:
Year 2 explores wonderful topics throughout the year which are embedded in our foundation subjects.
PE days
Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday.
Reading Books
In year 2, we encourage children to read at least 3 times a week. This is so they can use the skills for decoding, fluency and comprehension. Once the children have read and have been recorded in their reading records, they will be able to change their books and their reading quantity will be counted. Certificates are awarded in assemblies for the children who read: 25, 50, 75, 100 times.
Monday - Change reading and library books.
Thursday - Change reading books.
Homework
Your child will be given at least two pieces of homework every Monday. This can be completed at any time during the week as we recognise that every family's schedule is different. If and when homework is completed and handed back in, your child will receive a dojo point.
Reward System
Your child will continue to use their dojo account which follows them throughout their journey in school. They will earn dojos for various behaviors and actions shown in day to day lessons and can be given by any adult in school. Once your child has reached 25, 50, 75 or 100 dojo’s, they will be awarded a certificate in assembly.
