Our motto,“From little acorns, mighty oak trees grow!”, perfectly captures the spirit of Oak Class. Here, we nurture every child’s growth, helping them flourish academically, socially, and emotionally.
Meet the Team
In Oak Class, your child is supported by a dedicated team of four adults
Our class teachers, Mrs Dunford (Monday–Wednesday) and Mrs Castelli (Wednesday–Friday) and our wonderful teaching assistants, Mrs Lysenko and Mr Wilkinson. We will also be joined by Trevor Senior, who teaches PE for certain topics across the year.
Year 4 – A Year of Preparation
Year 4 is your child’s final year at Broadmayne, and we focus on preparing them for a confident and successful transition to middle school. Throughout the year your child will have the opportunity to create more amazing memories of their time at Broadmayne First School as well as also reflecting on their time with us and preparing for the next exciting step in their journey.
Reward System
We believe school should be a positive and motivating environment. To encourage this, we use the following reward systems:
Learning Attribute of the Week:Each week, we explore a learning attribute linked to our school values. When children demonstrate the attribute, their names go into our class star jar. When the jar is full, the class earns a reward!
Dojo Points:Children can earn points for showing our school values of kindness, safety, and respect, as well as for demonstrating learning attributes like wonderful walking, luscious looking, and lovely listening.
Positive notes home:When classroom adults spot something amazing in the classroom, we will celebrate your child by sending a positive note home. This will share their amazing work or achievement with their adults at home.
Reading
We encourage daily reading to foster a lifelong love of books. Each day, your child will hand in their reading book to be checked by an adult. Please sign their reading record to confirm you’ve listened to them. Engaging with your child’s reading by using expression, discussing characters, and exploring the plot will help to strengthen their comprehension and enjoyment.
Homework
In Year 4, homework is set weekly to consolidate and extend the learning your child has completed in class. Homework will be given onFridayand should be returned by the followingWednesday. This allows staff time to review the work and provide feedback before the next task is set. Feedback may not always be written directly in your child’s homework book; instead, staff will provide guidance in the way that will have the greatest impact on your child’s learning. To encourage consistency, children will receive1Dojo point for handing in their homework each week.
PE
Our PE days areTuesdayandFriday.Children should ensure their kit is in school and ready for use.
Snack and Healthy Eating
We encourage healthy snacks, such as pieces of fruit or vegetables. Children are encouraged to drink water throughout the day, though milk is also available to order.
Residential Trip
As part of the Year 4 experience, we are excited to offer a residential trip to Hooke Court in Beaminster. This outdoor adventure provides a fun and hands-on learning opportunity, building teamwork and independence.
Our Environment
Oak Class offers a calm, inclusive, and welcoming environment. We aim to nurture your child’s self-esteem and confidence, helping them feel ready to embrace life in Year 5 with excitement and resilience.
