Chestnut Class is our Year One class and has a team of three adults. Mrs Brake is our class teacher and Mrs Barnet and Mrs Tindell help support the children’s learning. We work hard to create a warm, nurturing and inclusive atmosphere in order to create a sense of belonging.
Our School Day:
Our doors open at 8:45am. The adults welcome the children into the class and settle them with calm activities whilst we wait for our register. These activities include fine motor skills, handwriting, number formation or little flashbacks to revise previous work.
Register takes place at 9am and is followed by Maths, Phonics, Assembly, Playtime, English, which includes Handwriting and Spelling practise and then Lunch time.
Our afternoon learning includes our Guided Reading lessons and non core subjects.
PE:
Our PE days are Monday and Wednesdays. The children need to keep their fully named PE kit in school and have both indoor and outdoor kit.
Reading books:
Mrs Tindell collects the Reading Records on Monday and Thursdays. She keeps a record of how many times the children have read so they can accumulate points towards their reading certificates! We encourage children to read daily with their parents as we believe reading is the key to accessing the whole curriculum. We recommend reading the book once for fluency, once for prosody and lastly for comprehension.
Home work:
Home work will be given on Thursdays and is due the following Wednesday.
Reward systems:
We follow the whole school reward system of Dojos. The children each have a dojo avatar and collect points towards receiving certificates in assembly.
Throughout the week, the adults keep a watchful eye on who is flying high and these children are rewarded in our Friday Assembly.
Children who really go above and beyond may be rewarded with our Headteacher’s Award at the end of each half term.
