Our Aims and Values

The principle aim of our school is to provide a happy, caring and stimulating learning environment, which encourages the love of learning and the fullfillment of potential in each child. Positive relationships are at the heart of all we do, and we strive to ensure that each child is treated as an individual, with his or her specific needs met. It is our belief that all children can excel, hence our school motto 'Flying High'.

Equity of opportunity is central to the ethos and core values of our school. To establish and maintain this, the school is fully committed to:

  • valuing equally all members of the community regardless of race, gender or disability.
  • ensuring that all children are provided with teaching methods and learning opportunities which allow pupils of all abilities and talents to achieve their fullest potential.
  • promoting positive attitudes towards life in all its diversity.

Each child is helped to acquire the following skills, abilities and qualities, which are fundamental to education and personal growth:

  • the ability to communicate clearly and confidently in a variety of ways and contexts;
  • reading and writing fluetly and enthusiastically for a range of purposes;
  • a lifelong love of learning;
  • an understanding of the application of mathematical facts and ideas and the ability to use them appropraitely in various situations;
  • an ability to use scientific methods of investigation including hypothesising and predicting;
  • the ability to analyse and solve problems seeking and interpreting appropraite evidence, considering and applying solutions;
  • an appreciation of time and place and an understanding of the human factors influencing the development of the human and natural world;
  • agility and physical coordination;
  • the ability to acquire information from a variety of sources and use it effectively;
  • imagination, creativity and sensitivity, which will all be developed through the provision of creative and expressive expereinces;
  • self-discipline and the ability to work alone or with others towards an agreed purpose;
  • spiritual and moral awareness and self-esteem;
  • respect for other people, including those of other cultures, beliefs, races and disabilities;
  • a sense of personal and social responsibility;
  • an understanding of, and respect for, the world around us.

Broadmayne First School has an excellent team of experienced and skilled staff who work harmoniously to provide the best quality education for all pupils, with a focus on supporting the development and wellbeing of all, in a warm, safe environment. We believe children learn best when they have positive relationships with the people around them.

We encourage as much outdoor learning as possible, and believe that this directly contributes to the good progress our children make academically. All of our children look after the environment from Reception onwards, linking this with their work in our generous grounds. Ofsted judged us to be a good school in March 2023 and commented on the caring culture of the school.

We know that we cannot be effective in isolation and we actively seek to connect with our parents and carers, families, and the wider community. The ethos of the school is one of openness, recognising the partnership of parents, pupils, staff and govenors.
