Broadmayne and West Knighton Pre-School

Offering your child a rural, village-based care and learning environment, in which they can follow their curiosity in play and build social relationships in a safe, happy and fun setting, giving them everything they need to move on to school confidently

Broadmayne and West Knighton Pre-School is located in the grounds of Broadmayne Primary School.  We are fortunate enough to have use of our own premises, providing the children with a variety of play spaces, including a nursery room and pre-school room, both with adjoining toilets. In addition, we benefit from a large enclosed garden area, in which children can make use of the play equipment including slides, climbing frame, stepping stones, mud kitchen, play-house, covered learning area and woodland corner.

We encourage children to experience outdoor play as much as possible and use the garden daily and generally regardless of weather, as we have full waterproof suits available for the children if needed.

Our learning ethos is to follow the children’s curiosity and encourage exploration in play.  Each child is, after all, unique with their own interests and we believe this approach leads to a broadening of the experience of all the children, whilst supporting the development of the individual.

Our regular activities include:

  •  messy play and water play;
  •  cooking and baking;
  •  painting, crafts, junk modelling, mark-making and colouring;
  •  music, dancing and story time;
  •  garden play, nature trails, vegetable and fruit growing;
  •  pen skills and literacy for pre-schoolers.

We also work hard to offer extra-curricular events to our children and their parents, and to be a visible part of the local community.  We regularly host brunch cafes, fetes and garden parties, jumble sales, children’s discos etc and were due to be hosting the vintage fete for the 2020 Broadmayne Armament & Embarkation celebrations in June 2020, which we hope to reschedule in 2021.
